GREAT ART WITHOUT SELLING YOUR KIDNEY

It was an informal think tank session over wine and good food, where great ideas always happen. A friend I turn to for expert design/typography conversation, Christina Black, was talking about 10:15 and what it might evolve into. It’s been an interesting startup experiment and it’s definitely cool to try to figure out what do with it next, how to bring more people into it. It’s also been a way to have creative conversations with a great group of people.

She brought my attention to 20×200, a collective project started by photographer Jen Bekman. Bekman’s personal work is beautiful, she shoots the everyday but with a great sense of narrative. The color and lighting come together to create sweet and simple frames. Her other side projects though support the fact that she’s a conceptual thinker behind the art.

Her 20×200 project is a cute idea, one of those “I wish I had thought of it” kind of things. It’s about making great art accessible to the common person. How often do you want to buy a print but would rather not have to trade your first born child in order to have an original on the wall.

So the deal is they sell:
8.5″x11″ Edition of 200 for $20 each.
17″x22″ Edition of 20 each $200.
30″x40″ Edition of 2 each $2000.

It’s a great way of bringing attention to the art scene and introducing emerging artists. I’m sad I missed a Starn for $20! For the price of a movie or a few beers your apartment could be curated with real art.

It might be interesting to apply some aspects of that project to 10:15. Stay tuned!
